A lovely natural Australian parti sapphire that I have skin polished to retain it orginal shape. It has a sort of mushroom look about it. Skin polishing is a technique not often seen and is usually reserved for rough stones that might be too thin or something for regular faceting. The stone might have beautiful colours and clarity so skin polishing is a good way to go.
When it comes to setting a skin polished sapphire I expect that you could do so in a similar way to how opals are often set. Many opals are skin polished and made in to unique settings.
