An outstanding Australian natural blue topaz from O'Briens Creek in Far North Queensland. This beautiful gem was cut from the tip of large water-worn crystal. In some of the photos you can see the bottom half of the crystal and the blue colour zoning running length ways across the crystal. When I faceted this gem I had to create a new gem design on the fly so that it would fit the shape of the original crystal tip as best as possible in order to maximise return weight yield and to get the optimal angles and brightness. In the end it took me around 24 hours (not in one sitting) to take it from rough to a finished polished gemstone.
Australian natural blue topaz of this size and quality are very rare. The gem has a lovely soft blue which is cooling and refreshing to the eye and spirit and the clarity is excellent. Topaz always cuts a very bright and clear gemstones. This fine blue topaz is one for the collector of special gemstones.
