A magnificent and beautifully cut natural Australian blue topaz from O'Briens Creek in Far North Queensland. I cut this in a special design I created just for big topaz, especially the blue topaz. It’s often the case that when I get big topaz they are quite blocky and I always want to preserve as much as possible of the stone. I intensely dislike grinding away and wasting anymore that I absolutely have to of a stone that is beautiful, perfect and millions of years old. But if I have to cut a big blocky stone then I am going to do the best job I can and make it as beautiful and big and bold as possible to honor the stone and try to do it justice. It’s a delicate balance between correct and optimal angles, colour, shape, aesthetics, weight and other subtleties. Hopefully I’ve achieved it with this blue topaz gem.
This is a very fine blue topaz and it is rare to see them cut clean over 20 carats, let along 40! This is definitely one for the collector of rare and unusual Australian gems. Very highly recommended.
