A beautiful and fascinating natural sunset tourmaline from Nigeria. This stunning tourmaline I faceted in a new design created specifically for this gem which I’ve called Halo Flare. It’s a very bright and lively design and really works well. This particular tourmaline has vivid golden green chartreuse hues which makes for a very unique and intriguing gemstone.
Tourmaline is one of the most dichroic of gemstones which means that it can exhibit different colors when viewed from different angles due to its unique optical properties. In this case it’s a golden yellow and green combination and to illustrate this more clearly I have included pics of the original rough nodule. When viewed down the “c” axis, ie. the table, the golden yellow colour can be seen, when viewed across the table, ie. the crosstable, the intense green colour is visible. When the gem is cut these colours combine to create something very special indeed.
