The owlbear greets you! This was a fun carving to do and it is done in rose quartz. For those who don’t know, an owlbear is a fantastical creature from the Dungeons & Dragons game world and as the name suggests, is a cross between an owl and a bear. I first played AD&D (Advanced Dungeons & Dragons) back when I was a kid at school and we had a great time and lots of fun and I still play it today.

This piece could simply be kept as a netsuke or it might make a great signet ring or perhaps a brooch or coat pin. Let your imagination run wild, just like the owlbear. :-)

Rose Quartz - Owlbear - 39.44ct

Rose Quartz - Owlbear - 39.44ct - Polishing the piece using fine diamond paste. This stage takes quite a while as I have to work through six different grits, from coarse to very fine. As you can see it makes a mess of my fingers but it’s the only way to get a beautiful polish and finish. Even carving a small piece like this takes considerable time and patience.
