A magical natural Madagascan rainbow moonstone cut in a lovely oval design.
These Madagascan rainbow moonstones are crazy gems with a kaleidoscope of colour right across the spectrum. Most folks are familiar with blue moonstones and the particular adularescence property that give moonstones the characteristic “glow” but these rainbow gems are from a very recent discovery and the stones are exceptionally clear and can be faceted rather than cut in the usual cabochon fashion. Instead of just blue they have, as the name suggests, a riot of colour and are mesmerising gems to look at.
From what I understand they were unearthed in the famous Andilamena mine located in Alaotra-Mangoro in Madagascar. This is only a very small deposit and it’s thought that there isn’t too much of it remaining. These are quite special moonstones and definitely one that should be in every collection.
