Brazilian Amethyst - Phase Spider - 90.11ct
I love it when a client says - I trust you Doug, do whatever you want with the piece.
As soon as I started preforming the rough crystal I knew there was a spider in there. This was a good carve.
For those that don't know, a phase spider is a creature from the Dungeons and Dragons game. It's a multidimensional creature that inhabits planes that adjoin the Prime Material (the one that we inhabit) primarily the Ethereal Plane and can "phase" in and out between the planes to capture prey.
I thought the way the carved spider reflected off the inner planes of the amethyst gave it a multidimensional feel and thus using the gem I could perceive the phase spider waiting patiently at the edges of reality.
