Australian Binbee Amethyst - Emerald Cut - 7.79ct

The amethyst from Binbee near Bowen in North Queensland is in my opinion the best gem quality amethyst you can get in Australia. There are some fantastic Australian amethyst specimens around but high quality gem material is actually quite rare. The tiny deposit at Binbee literally has a main road now running through it and is now illegal to dig there, the Main Roads Department generally frowns upon people digging up the side of the road.

This amethyst was dug in the early 1960’s and is part of a collection now being released by the fellow who as a young boy helped his Uncle “Cooke” dig when on school holidays. This is a very fine amethyst and one for the collector of gemstones from unusual locations.
